Quantum computation of discrete logarithms in semigroups

چکیده
We describe an efficient quantum algorithm for computing discrete logarithms in semigroups using Shor’s algorithms for period finding and discrete log as subroutines. Thus proposed cryptosystems based on the presumed hardness of discrete logarithms in semigroups are insecure against quantum attacks. In contrast, we show that some generalizations of the discrete log problem are hard in semigroups despite being easy in groups. We relate a shifted version of the discrete log problem in semigroups to the dihedral hidden subgroup problem, and we show that the constructive membership problem with respect to k ≥ 2 generators in a black-box abelian semigroup of order N requires Θ̃(N 1 2 − 1 2k ) quantum queries.

Stability of additive functional equation on discrete quantum semigroups
We construct a noncommutative analog of additive functional equations on discrete quantum semigroups and show that this noncommutative functional equation has Hyers-Ulam stability on amenable discrete quantum semigroups. The discrete quantum semigroups that we consider in this paper are in the sense of van Daele, and the amenability is in the sense of Bèdos-Murphy-Tuset. Our main result genera...
متن کاملA quantum circuit to find discrete logarithms on ordinary binary elliptic curves in depth O(log^2n)
Improving over an earlier construction by Kaye and Zalka [1], in [2] Maslov et al. describe an implementation of Shor’s algorithm, which can solve the discrete logarithm problem on ordinary binary elliptic curves in quadratic depth O(n). In this paper we show that discrete logarithms on such curves can be found with a quantum circuit of depth O(log n). As technical tools we introduce quantum ci...
متن کاملQuantum factoring, discrete logarithms, and the hidden subgroup problem
Amongst the most remarkable successes of quantum computation are Shor’s efficient quantum algorithms for the computational tasks of integer factorisation and the evaluation of discrete logarithms. In this article we review the essential ingredients of these algorithms and draw out the unifying generalization of the so-called abelian hidden subgroup problem. This involves an unexpectedly harmoni...
متن کاملQuantum Computing Discrete Logarithms with the Help of a Preprocessed State
An alternative quantum algorithm for the discrete logarithm problem is presented. The algorithm uses two quantum registers and two Fourier transforms whereas Shor’s algorithm requires three registers and four Fourier transforms. A crucial ingredient of the algorithm is a quantum state that needs to be constructed before we can perform the computation. After one copy of this state is created, th...
متن کاملAlgorithms for Quantum Computation: Discrete Logarithms and Factoring
A computer is generally considered to be a universal computational device; i.e., it is believed able to simulate any physical computational device with a cost in computation time of at most a polynomial factol: It is not clear whether this is still true when quantum mechanics is taken into consideration. Several researchers, starting with David Deutsch, have developed models for quantum mechani...
